Description

2 Abbey Green is a town house that has been converted into a restaurant, likely built in the early 19th century. It features Flemish bond brown brick and a grey slate roof, standing three storeys tall with four windows arranged in two parts, separated by a central vertical joint. The building has a painted stone plinth and two stone steps leading to the entrance, which has a door with four glazed panels above two flush panels, framed by an eared architrave and a replaced hood.

To the west of the door, there is a flush tripartite sash window with the glazing bars removed, while to the east, there are two flush sash windows, also with the bars removed. The second storey boasts a Venetian window with three replaced horned sashes, a flush sash window above the door, and two additional flush sashes to the west. The third storey features a tripartite sash window with a 2;4;2 pane configuration, a small inserted casement, and two four-pane sashes. All windows have painted stone sills and gauged brick heads, and the parapet is topped with a plain coping. The rear of the building has various flush sash windows.

The interior has not been fully inspected but appears to retain many original features, including a Georgian staircase, doors, embrasures, and cornices. Historically, the building does not appear on Weston's Map of Chester from 1789 but is present on John Wood's Map from 1833.
