Description

The bathing pool and well in the garden of Bath Garden Cottage date back to 1684, as indicated by an inscribed tablet. The inscription translates to a dedication for fortifying the body and quenching thirst. The structure is made of red sandstone ashlar rendered with cement, featuring a paved sandstone surround. The square pool includes a flight of stone steps at one corner and a spout at the opposite corner that allows water to flow into a dished bowl. Adjacent to the pool, there is a rockery of roughly hewn stone that holds the rectangular datestone with a moulded border. Next to the pool is the well, which has a similar rectangular shape and includes a set of steps leading down into it.
