Description
MALPAS C.P. HIGH STREET SJ 44 NE (East Side) 2/60 Malpas Post Office GV II Post Office with living accommodation above, circa 1840 or earlier, with flat-roofed single-storey front extension, probably Edwardian. 3 storeys; 3 windows; almost symmetrical. Brown Flemish bond brickwork with grey slate roof. Lower storey of hard red brick has central house-entrance with 6-panel door (lower panels flush reeded) under plain rectangular fanlight: to right is a 3-light window of 2-pane sashes, to left double post-office doors. House door has stop-chamfered lintel; window and post-office door are under shall- brick arches with stone pads and keys. The second storey has 4-pane and the 3rd storey 6-pane flush sashes with keystone lintels of the type on the mid C18 Rectory and Drake's House and Cottage (items 40 and 68 q.q.v.). Projecting stone cills. Reeded eaves fascia, probably of stone; coped gables; flush gable chimneys. At rear of post office is an early C20 sorting office with glazed roof. Interior: Not inspected.
