Description

Malpas Post Office is a building with living accommodation above, dating from around 1840 or earlier, featuring a flat-roofed single-storey front extension that is likely Edwardian. The structure has three storeys and three windows, presenting an almost symmetrical facade. It is constructed of brown Flemish bond brickwork topped with a grey slate roof. The lower storey is made of hard red brick and includes a central house entrance with a six-panel door, where the lower panels are flush reeded, situated beneath a plain rectangular fanlight. To the right of the entrance is a three-light window with two-pane sashes, and to the left are double post-office doors. The house door features a stop-chamfered lintel, while the window and post-office door are set under shallow brick arches with stone pads and keys. The second storey has four-pane flush sashes, and the third storey has six-pane flush sashes, both with keystone lintels similar to those found on the mid-18th century Rectory and Drake's House and Cottage. The building also has projecting stone cills, a reeded eaves fascia likely made of stone, coped gables, and flush gable chimneys. At the rear of the post office is an early 20th-century sorting office with a glazed roof. The interior has not been inspected.
