Description
This building, now a post office and house, dates primarily from the 17th century, though it was significantly altered in the mid-18th century and has undergone some late 20th-century restoration. It is timber-framed with painted brick infill, clad in painted brick, and has a slate roof. A large brick chimney stack is located at the rear.
The east front of the building is two storeys with an attic, which is lit by two dormers with segmental roofs. A dentilled brick cornice runs along the top. There are four windows, the one to the right being in a slightly recessed wall, all with glazing bar sashes under rubbed brick heads. The ground floor features two canted bay windows, each with glazing bar sashes, and hipped felt roofs. The entrance is in the centre, with a 20th-century panelled door and overlight. An entrance to a passage is located at the right-hand end and has a semi-circular head. The north gable exposes the timber framing, which includes two struts to the collar in the roof truss.
