Description

Mellington House is a late 17th-century house, with alterations from the mid-19th century and restoration work in 1926. It incorporates an outbuilding. The front of the house is timber-framed and stuccoed, featuring a hipped tile roof with swept eaves. A large stack is located on the rear (east) wall. The west front displays two storeys with an attic, lit by three gabled dormers with pierced 19th-century bargeboards. The stuccoed front has quoins and a band to the ground floor, topped by a moulded wooden cornice. Four windows with eared architraves and glazing bar sashes are present. A semi-circular headed blind architrave with a keystone sits centrally, above the front door, which has a moulded wooden architrave and a six-panel door. An outbuilding is set back to the right of the main house, partially obscured by a 19th-century two-storey link block. A carriage entrance is present at the extreme right-hand end of the outbuilding. The timber framing of the house is arranged in four rectangular panels high, while the outbuilding is arranged in three square panels. Some pieces of reused timber within the outbuilding are likely from a medieval building.
