MALPAS C.P. THE CROSS SJ 44 NE 2/55 Water-valve housing on south-east side of the Cross II

Valve housing, circa 1820, of cast iron. Circular in plan, with a domed top. Small circular hole in crown. The valve housing, with the appearance of a squat bollard, is a relic of the piped water system constructed at Malpas circa 1820. The water came from Bradley Brook and was stored in a reservoir on the motte.
