Description
The Church of St. Oswald, built in 1908 by F P Oakley, is a Grade II listed building located on Bollington Road. It features irregularly coursed buff sandstone with sandstone dressings and a red tile roof, complete with stone-coped gables and a stone chimney for the vestry. The church is designed in a florid Decorated style and has a layout that runs from north to south, consisting of a nave with four bays and an L-shaped chancel. It also includes an east aisle, a west porch, and a south-east porch.
The nave bays are separated by buttresses and contain three-light windows with reticulated tracery. The south window mirrors this design but is positioned above a castellated bay window of the baptistery. The south-east porch features a segmental headed doorcase adorned with carved oak leaf panels. The east aisle has triple trefoil-headed lights set in rectangular surrounds.
Inside, the church has dark red brick walls complemented by buff sandstone dressings. The interior includes four bay arcades supported by diamond-sectioned piers and a plain pointed chancel arch. The nave boasts a pine hammer beam roof, which springs from stone corbels and includes cusped wind braces, while the chancel features a wagon roof.
