Description

Legh Cottage is a house dating from the late 17th century, which was restored in the late 19th century. It features a timber frame with brick infill and a slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has a baffle entry plan with two cells.

On the entrance front, there are ten by two cells of small framing with angle braces on the sides. The windows are from the 19th and 20th centuries, including a four-light casement window on the left side of the ground floor and two two-light similar windows to the right. There is a doorway to the right of the right window, which has the date 1884 and a cypher above it. In front of the door, there is a lean-to open porch, along with a contiguous square bay window that also has a lean-to roof to the right. A central ridge stack from 1884 is present.

The right gable end has four by two cells of small framing with angle braces and 19th-century brick nogging, featuring a queen-post truss gable. The left gable end consists of four by three cells of small framing with angle braces, although some timbers are missing. It has a five-light casement window on the ground floor and a two-light window on the first floor. The gable extends to the left to a former outhouse, which was joined to the building during the 1884 restoration. To the left of the extended gable, there is a dove cote, and the outhouse also features four by three cells of small framing.
