Description
Towngate Cottage is a house dating from the late 17th century. It features a timber frame with rendered brick infill and a slate roof. The building has a three-cell baffle-entry plan and was originally one storey but has been converted to two storeys.
The front elevation has a stone and brick plinth and consists of fifteen by thirteen cells of small framing. There are angle braces at the corners and in the fourth and eighth bays. The doorway is located to the right of the centre, with a four-light casement window to the left of the door and a three-light casement window to the right.
The right-hand gable end displays five by three cells of small framing, with queen struts and angle struts visible in the gable. The rear facade shows ten by three cells of small framing, with angle braces in the left corner and in the fourth and seventh bays. There is a 20th-century kitchen addition to the right and a 20th-century dormer window on the east side.
