Description
Mere Old Hall is a house dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with later additions and alterations. It is constructed of rendered and whitewashed stone and brick, topped with a plain tile and slate roof featuring lead flashings. The building has two and three storeys.
The east front has a left-hand section of the facade that originally formed a symmetrical whole. What remains is a two-storey facade with a central projecting section that has two bays, three recessed bays to the left, and two projecting bays at the extreme left. All windows have two-over-four panes, except for the three recessed ground floor windows, which are plate glass, and the two to the left of those, which are false painted windows. There is a doorway in the sixth bay with a fanlight above. The projecting eaves are supported by paired consoles. To the right, there is a 19th-century two-bay addition.
Inside, the drawing room features mid-Victorian Regency-style doorcases. The staircase hall has three Regency fanlights over double doorways and an open well staircase with a wrought iron balustrade. One upper floor room has a coved ceiling, while the dining room includes a late 19th-century panelled ceiling and overmantel.
