Description
The entrance arch and gates to Mere Country Club and Golf Course, located at Mere New Hall, date from around 1840. They are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring stone dressings and a tiled roof. The structure includes a two-storey gateway flanked by single-storey lodges on either side. The road-facing side has a stone plinth with stone quoins and caps on the turrets and window surrounds, with some decorative blue brick diapering.
The central gateway is designed in a Tudor arch style, with Tudor-arched pedestrian walkways on either side, set within slightly projecting square turrets that transition to octagonal turrets topped with domed caps. The first floor of the turrets features lancet windows, and above the central archway is a two-light casement window with a shaped gable above it. The lateral one-storey wings have three-light casement windows, also with shaped gables above.
The central and pedestrian arches are adorned with cast iron gates featuring a diamond lattice pattern and armigerous shields. The rear of the structure mirrors the road frontage, but the pedestrian walkways are located under the central archway rather than under the turrets. There are 20th-century single-storey additions on the left and right sides.
