Description

Ridge Hill Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating to 1693, with significant alterations in the 18th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings, and has an English garden wall bond brick addition with a stone slate roof. The front of the building has two bays, with a later brick gabled addition to the right. A 19th-century gabled porch is situated on the right, imposing itself on the joint between the late 17th and 18th-century sections. To the left are two bays containing two 3-light stone casements on the ground floor, with chamfered mullions; the right-hand window has blocked lateral lights and a continuous hood mould. Above these are matching first-floor windows, the right-hand window retaining its original diamond-latticed panes. Two 2-light gabled dormer windows are positioned above, both with hood moulds and chamfered mullions, the left one with original lateral latticed lights. Above the dormers are two rectangular tablets: the left bearing a coat of arms, and the right the date stone. The gables feature moulded kneelers and coping, the latter extending between the gables and supported by the kneelers, with ball finials at the left gable summit. The 18th-century brick addition, flush with the original range, has a single cambered-headed 3-light casement window with a keystone on the ground floor to the right. The right-hand return elevation has two bays with 3-light ground and first-floor windows, all with cambered heads and keystones.
