Description
Canal Bridge Number 44 on the Macclesfield Canal is a road bridge built around 1827 by Thomas Telford. It is constructed from coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and features a single span.
The front of the bridge has a cambered arch made of voussoirs, with a band located below the parapet and a chamfered ashlar parapet. Curved retaining walls on either side of the bridge end in piers. Notably, one half of this bridge is situated in the former Macclesfield municipal borough.
This bridge is part of a series, with references to Bridge Number 45 on London Road and Bridge Number 46 on Gawend Lane.
