Description
Wood Cottage is a house built around 1790, located on Walker Lane in Sutton. It is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern and features a slate roof. The building has two storeys and the entrance front is composed of three bays arranged symmetrically. At the base, there is a stone plinth. The central bay slightly projects forward and is flanked by pilaster strips. The central doorway has four raised and fielded panels, topped with a basket-arched fanlight. It is framed by a 20th-century wooden door surround that includes Tuscan columns supporting pieces of entablature and an open pediment.
On the ground floor, the sash windows are arranged in a 3 by 4 pane configuration, complete with ashlar sills and wedge lintels. A stone band runs along the level of the sills of the first-floor windows, which are similar in style to those on the ground floor. At the rear of the house, there is a central round-arched staircase strip window that extends from the mezzanine level to the first floor, along with a slightly projecting 20th-century addition on the right.
