Description

Canal Bridge Number 45 is a road bridge over the Macclesfield Canal, built around 1827 by Thomas Telford. The bridge is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and features a single span.

The front of the bridge has a horseshoe arch made of voussoirs, with a band located below the parapet and chamfered ashlar coping. The upstream side has concave retaining walls that end in square piers. There is a wood and steel footbridge attached to the downstream side, but this is not included in the listing. One half of this bridge is situated in the former Macclesfield Municipal Borough.

For reference, nearby structures include Bridge No. 44 on Bullocks Lane and Bridge No. 46 on Gawend Lane.
