Description

Canal bridge number 46 is a road bridge over the Macclesfield Canal, built around 1827 by Thomas Telford. The bridge is constructed from coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and features a single span.

The front of the bridge has a horseshoe arch made of voussoirs. There is a band below the parapet and chamfered ashlar coping, with concave retaining walls on either side that end in square piers. One half of this bridge is located in the former Macclesfield municipal borough.

For reference, nearby bridges include Bridge No. 44 on Bullocks Lane and Bridge No. 45 on London Road.
