Description
The Home Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid-17th century, with later additions and alterations. It is constructed of red English garden wall bond brick, featuring ashlar dressings and a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and presents a symmetrical entrance front with three bays. The central entrance is a 19th-century front door set within a 19th-century gabled porch that has a basket arch and stone kneelers, along with ball finials on the sides and top.
On either side of the entrance, there are three-light casement windows with flat-arched heads made of gauged brick and stone sills. A cogged band runs between the floors. At the first floor level, there are three-light casements on either side, with a higher central 2-light window, all featuring stone sills and flat-arched heads of gauged brick. The central window is positioned above a former lower window that is now blocked, which had a basket arch. This new central window extends upwards through a band made of two rows of stretchers supported by an alternating row of projecting headers.
The raised gable above the center has been rebuilt in 19th-century brick, with stone kneelers and coping, along with ball finials on the sides and top. The gable stacks, also raised in the 19th century, have four flues each. On the left side of the building, there are two single-storey projecting wings at ground floor level, each with three-light casement windows that have flat-arched heads and stone sills. The gables of these wings are made of 19th-century brick, featuring stone kneelers, coping, and ball finials. The two wings are connected by a 20th-century flat-roofed sun porch. Decorated bands between floors mirror those on the entrance front, and there are two blocked windows in the gable with flat lintels of headers, along with stone kneelers, coping, and ball finials on the sides.
