Description

This is a milepost located upstream of Lock No. 57 on the Trent and Mersey Canal, dating from 1819. It is made of cast iron and features a circular post with a projecting quatrefoil at the lower body, which displays the date in raised letters along with "R&D STONE." Above this, there is a curved plate that is divided vertically, reading "SHARDLOW PRESTON BROOK 67 25 MILES." The post is topped with a moulded domed finial.
