Description
The Trent and Mersey Canal Bridge, located at SJ 7950 5794, is a canal accommodation bridge built in the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed from brindled brick and features stone coping. The bridge has a single span with a towpath and a humped back, characterized by an elliptical arch. The wings of the bridge are slightly swept and terminate in piers at all four corners. The lower voussoirs are made of stone, and there is a stone keystone along with a stone plaque at the crown on both sides, inscribed with the number '142'. A brick string course runs along the bridge. Minor repairs have been made to the structure. The Trent and Mersey Canal itself was constructed between 1766 and 1777, with alterations carried out in the early 19th century and around the 1830s.
