Description
New Lodge is a lodge built in the mid to late 19th century. It features a timber frame with rendered infill and a slate roof. The building is single storey with an attic and has an entrance front that includes a central recessed porch flanked by gabled wings. The porch, which is accessed by a flight of ashlar steps, has three round arched openings supported by chamfered square posts, with diamond pointed rustication on the keystone pieces.
On the rear and left-hand side wall, there are panels of 18th-century raised and fielded panelling, topped by a single row of decoratively carved 17th-century panels that have been brought from elsewhere. The right-hand side wall features a half-glazed door. The projecting wings have stone and brick plinths, above which are panels of small framing with chevron infill, along with similar decorative infill on the gables.
The windows consist of three casement lights on either side at ground floor level, each with billet moulded surrounds. The right-hand gable has an inserted attic window from the 20th century. The right side of the building has decorative timber framing, with a projecting gabled wing on the left that includes a canted bay window at ground floor and a two-light 20th-century casement window in the gable. To the right, there is a recessed three-light casement window. The rear of the lodge features a 20th-century gabled extension on the left.
