Description
The northern range of service buildings at Combermere Park dates from the early 19th century and is constructed of red brick with a slate roof. It is two storeys high and features a court facade with nine bays. The ground floor has cambered headed three-light windows and stable doorways, while the first floor contains two and three-light casement windows.
On the right side of the building, there is a recessed central section that includes a blind window with Y-tracery on the ground floor, above which are five small lancet windows with a Tudor hood mould and cross-shaped arrow slits on either side. A cyma-moulded stringcourse runs above this section, topped by a battlemented parapet.
Flanking this central portion are single-storey wings that project slightly. The right wing has a doorway on the left and a cross-shaped arrow slit on the right, along with a buttress with offsets at the left corner and an octagonal turret at the right corner. The left wing features a central window with a Tudor hood mould and a battlemented parapet.
At the rear of the range, which faces the entrance court of the abbey, there is a single-storey wall divided into ten bays by buttresses with offsets at the top. This wall has two cross-shaped arrow slits at either end and a battlemented parapet along the top. An octagonal turret is located at the left corner, and a water tower rises to a second storey in the second bay from the right, both towers featuring battlemented parapets.
This building is noted for its group value.
