Country House. C18 with C19 remodelling and possibly earlier core to northern range. Red brick with limestone and gault brick detailing and dressings. Black glazed pantile roofs. Two storeys and cellar; double pile with 'M' roof. Principal facade to south with symmetrical main block of five bays. Basement level in English bond, with traces of diapering in dark headers. Four openings to cellar with flat rubbed arches. Sash windows without glazing bars; gauged arched over openings. Central projecting two-storey porch a C19 addition; doorway with elliptical-arched opening in moulded gault brick. Two-light first floor window with cusped lights, hollow chamfered jambs, mullion and surround all in gault brick. Stepped drip mould incorporating a panel with the initials REW. Moulded brick string course at eaves level, now largely rendered over. Castellated gault brick parapet, panelled and pierced, with motto "Usque ad mortem fidus" in central panel. Two twisted corner finials on central bay with octagonal castellated tops. Octagonal angle turrets with stone string courses and embattled gault brick tops. To the west, a C19 lean-to with 2-light ground and first floor windows matching window in porch. Octagonal corner turret on square base, with cusped slit windows and embattled parapet. Gables parapeted with roll moulded copings: internal gable stacks. Rear pile (to north) shows line of earlier gable with tumbling-in; two stone quatrefoil panels on east gable. Rainwater head at valley junction with inscription plate RAW 1765 (probably re-set). One-storey bay with stepped gable and two-light window at east gable. North facade has three 2-storey polygonal bays with hipped pantile roofs and casement windows. Centre bay slightly taller with square castellated brick turret on north side. Semi-circular headed doorway with rusticated brick arch and flanking butt- resses. Cartouche set in spandrel above door. Square bell turret at north west corner. Lower two-storey service wing at north west corner, L-shaped with single storey hipped service wing at west end. To the north of the hall, a wall courtyard bounded by castellated red brick wall with roll-moulded copings incorporating lean-to kennels and stores on the north wall and on the east side a C19 school room : red brick, slated roof with crested ridge. Parapeted and coped gables. Three leaded windows with chamfered gault brick surrounds. Gabled dormer on east side, stone 3-light window with cusped heads. Chimney at north gable.
