Description

Braemar is a house dated E.M. 1714, indicated by iron tie-plates at the upper floor level, though it may have an earlier core. The building is constructed of red brick and features a reed thatched roof. It has one and a half storeys and a symmetrical facade facing the street, which includes one and two-light windows with hollow-chamfered reveals and mullions. There are square drip moulds above the window openings and segmental relieving arches over the ground floor openings. The central doorway is topped with a small canopy supported by timber brackets, and there is a small stone tablet above the door, which is partially decipherable and bears the name Ed. Melver. The house also has a scalloped fascia board, parapeted gables with roll-moulded copings, and internal chimney stacks. There are later lean-to structures at the east and west gables, and 20th-century attic casements in the gables.
