Description

Toothill Court is an impressive 2-storey service range that is attached to Toothill Hall, forming three sides of a courtyard. This building dates from the late 18th century to the mid 19th century and is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. It consists of two wings connected by a barn and stable range.

The barn features two cart entries with segmental arches and two 3-light flat faced recessed mullioned windows. The right-hand wing has three bays, with the first bay attached to the barn showcasing four arch-headed ventilators and two doorways with monolithic jambs. Quoins separate the central bay, which has two now-blocked doorways and a single light window above. The outer bay includes a doorway with composite jambs and a 4-light flat faced mullioned window with a similar window above. The return wall has a coped gable with kneelers and a columbarium.

The left-hand wing consists of four bays. The first two bays form a pair of cottages that have been combined into one, each originally featuring a doorway with monolithic jambs (now blocked) and a 4-light flat faced mullioned window above, along with a central stack on the ridge. The third bay projects forward and contains 2-light mullioned windows, with a 3-light window centrally located. A band and gable with a circle for a clock face has been reset over the lower of the two cart entries. The fourth bay includes a large stone lintel above a cart entry, a 2-light mullioned window with a similar window above, and a 3-light mullioned window. The stack is positioned at the angle of the barn range.

The two-storey rear of the building has three bays, with the central bay featuring a 4-light flat faced mullioned window above. The left bay projects forward and has 2-light mullioned sash windows above, while the right bay includes a circa 1950 single-storey extension. Gutter brackets are also present.
