Description

A former house, later divided into two separate houses, dating to the late 16th century, with alterations made in the early 19th and 20th centuries. The building is timber-framed and constructed of rubble stone, partly rendered, with ashlar dressings and a concrete pantile roof. It features two ridge stacks and one gable stack. The structure is two storeys high and follows an L-shaped plan. The front facing Church Street is set back for No. 11, with a centrally positioned doorway featuring a half-glazed door. To the left of the doorway is a small sash window with an ashlar surround, and single 20th-century casements on either side. Above, a small casement with an ashlar surround is flanked by further 20th-century casements. The section of the street front belonging to No. 13 has 20th-century doorways, with a 20th-century casement on each floor. The garden facade facing No. 13 is rendered and includes a doorway and a 20th-century casement to the left. Above is a pair of two-light sliding sashes. The entrance to No. 11 has a half-glazed door, with a single casement on each floor. A set-back wing to the left has two two-light casements, and two similar windows above. Directly to the right of those windows is a blocked loft door surround. Inside No. 11, two bays of large-scale timber framing remain, as does the party wall shared with No. 13. The roof is 19th century, incorporating many timbers from the original 16th century. The upper floor retains a stone slab smoke hood. The building is designated for its important surviving timber framing.
