Description
The game larder located at the center of the service court at Combermere Abbey is an early 19th-century structure, likely designed by Morrison. It is built from whitewashed stretcher bond brick and features a slate roof with lead flashings, topped with a timber lantern at the apex. The building is single storey and has an octagonal shape with a rectangular porch on the eastern side.
The eastern face includes a central porch with a four-centered doorway framed by a stone surround and topped with a Tudor hood mould. The entire building rests on a stone plinth and is capped with a cyma moulded cornice, also with a lead roof. Flanking the porch are a series of two-light cusped headed windows, with the window above the porch being shallower than the others. Similar windows are found on all sides, featuring diamond-patterned lattices made of iron rods. The eaves are deep, and the lantern openings consist of rectangular lights with trefoil heads and cills.
