Description
Stone Lodge is a gate lodge to Combermere Abbey, built around 1850 by the Morrisons of Ireland. The structure is made of red sandstone ashlar with a slate roof. The front facing the drive features a projecting gabled wing that is two storeys high on the right side, while the left side has a single-storey range and a gabled porch.
The two-storey section on the right includes a canted two-storey bay window with a hipped roof. Above this, on the first floor, is a two-light window with a Tudor hood-mould, and both windows have cusped heads. The gable displays a lead coat of arms of Viscount Combermere, with moulded coping along the eaves and a sceptre finial at the top.
To the left, slightly recessed, is the single-storey range, which features four single-light plate-glass windows with flat heads, each topped by blind cusped panels. Adjacent to this is the projecting gabled porch, which has an arched doorway with a moulded surround and hood mould, along with another coat of arms on the gable, complete with moulded coping and a post finial. The left side of the porch has a two-light window, and the upper part of the two-storey wing is topped with a two-flue chimney stack that has a plain rectangular lower body and moulded flues above.
