Description

Higher Crow Trees is a 17th-century farmhouse that has been altered and is now used as a house. It is constructed from sandstone rubble with some quoins and features a slate roof that is slightly higher at the left end. The building has four bays and two storeys. The first bay, which projects slightly, is said to have been a shippon and includes a large lintel from a former doorway along with modern windows. The fourth bay has been reduced to a single-storey lean-to and contains an old chamfered doorway with a hoodmould, as well as a round-headed lancet to the right that bears the letters "I" and "M" on the head, possibly from another location. Above this doorway is an inserted window. The central bays feature an inserted door to the left and three double-chamfered stone mullion windows: the ground floor has a four-light window (missing two mullions) with a hoodmould, while the first floor has two three-light windows, both now functioning as casements with only one mullion remaining. At the rear, there is a long lean-to extension to the second bay, a large six-light king-mullion window (with all other mullions missing) and a hoodmould to the third bay, alongside a blocked former firewindow to its left and a two-light window in the fourth bay. The interior has been altered.
