Description
Higher Doles Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that has undergone some alterations. It is constructed from washed coursed squared buff sandstone rubble and features a composition tile roof with one brick chimney. The building has an H-shaped plan and a three-bay north front. The left end bay, which is under a projecting gable, has two storeys. It includes part of a chamfered rubble mullion window with a hood mould, alongside a similar four-light window that has some original glazing, although this is now obscured by a brick lean-to. Above these, there is a rebated three-light rubble mullion window and another similar four-light window in the gable. The central bay is one storey high and has a large two-light horizontal sliding sash window with glazing bars. The right end bay has two storeys and features three 20th-century openings. Inside, there are some simple two-panelled doors with wooden latches, a 17th-century dogleg stair with a handrail, square newels, and no balusters. The parlour contains an ovolo-moulded beam with flat and tongue stops, while other rooms have chamfered beams.
