Description

The lychgate to St Stephen's Churchyard, dated 1906, is a square structure built in a medieval style using dressed sandstone and featuring a stone slate roof with moulded coping. It has large hollow-moulded arches at the front and rear, each adorned with hoodmoulds. The corners are accentuated by projecting angle buttresses that have weatherings and gableted heads. The front arch is inscribed with the words "I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE." A panel in the gable commemorates John Pickop Esq., J.P., who died in 1903, while the rear gable includes the names of the vicar and churchwardens, also dated 1906.
