Description

The building is a school, dated 1834 as shown on a plaque next to the doorway. Constructed of sandstone random rubble with a slate roof, it is a simple rectangular, single-storey structure built against a slope. A plain doorway is offset to the left, and a two-light window with a hollow-chamfered mullion is located to its left. To the right of the doorway is an arched doorway raised above a stone pulpit on a pedestal, representing the sole opening in an otherwise long, blind wall. Above and to the right of the entrance is a square plaque inscribed with “St. Stephen’s School, Tockholes, was erected A.D. 1834, upon the Glebe Land by voluntary Subscription, aided with a Grant of £150 from the National Society, London Gilmour Robinson, In.”
