Description

The War Memorial, located on Benton Road in Tynemouth, was built around 1919. It is made of granite and marble and features a square pedestal raised on two steps. The pedestal has a plinth and cornice, supporting a figure of an angel. The angel holds a flag in its left arm and a laurel wreath in its outstretched right arm. A wreath is carved on the pedestal, which is flanked by the dates 1914 and 1919. The names of the fallen from West Allotment, Old Allotment, and the surrounding district who died in the Great War are inscribed on the sides of the memorial.
