Description

The War Memorial, located on Archer Street in Wallsend, was built around 1918 for the Borough of Wallsend. It is made of granite and bronze, featuring a bronze angel of victory atop a very tall scroll-topped obelisk. The plinth has palm decorations on its corner panels and rests on a stepped base. The south panel honors those who died in the First World War, while an inscription on the step commemorates those from the Second World War. The top of the plinth is inscribed with the words, "AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING WE WILL REMEMBER THEM."
