Description
The lodge to Westgate Hill School, located to the south-east of the school, is likely from the early 20th century. It features red brick and tile-hanging, with some half-timbering, and has a Lakeland slate roof. The building has a T-plan on the first floor, with pent extruded bays that fill the corners. The overhanging first floor is adorned with fish-scale tiles. A half-glazed door is set back in an extruded bay and is supported by a carved corner-post. The windows are sash style with upper glazing bars. There is a central brick stack that includes pilasters and a corbelled cornice.
The walls and piers are made of brick, red sandstone, and terra-cotta. The walls have a chamfered plinth with chamfered stone coping, while the square piers have stone-coped plinths with terra-cotta cornices and ball finials. The gates are made of wrought and cast iron, featuring quatrefoil-pierced bands, spear finials, and twisted uprights. The top rail of the gates curves upward, with the left gate displaying a cast-iron plaque that reads 'GIRLS AND INFANTS' and the right gate displaying 'BOYS'.
