Description

The Clennell family tomb is located in Westgate Hill Cemetery and dates from around 1854. It is made of sandstone ashlar and features a round-topped moulded slab that commemorates John and Elizabeth Clennell of St. Peter's Quay, who died in 1854 and 1856, respectively, along with their son Luke and other members of the Clennell family until 1938. Luke Clennell was noted as one of the prominent painters from a vigorous group of artists in Newcastle. The tomb is included for its historical interest.
