Description

The Balmoral Public House is a public house that was originally built as two houses around 1840. It features a sandstone ashlar and pecked stone exterior with a Welsh slate roof. The left part of the building has a basement and two storeys, comprising two bays. There are ten steps that curve around a right angle leading to a flushed door on the right, which is set in a flat Tuscan doorcase with a prominent cornice. An oriel window from the 19th century has been inserted on the left side, while the sashes above are under flat stone lintels and have late 19th-century glazing bars and a sill band. The ground floor sill band is interrupted by the oriel window. The building has an eaves band and a gutter cornice, with an ashlar end chimney that has been raised in brick. The steps are accompanied by plain iron railings and a handrail with a down-curled end.

The right part of the building has rusticated ground and first floors, with rusticated quoins on the second floor. It stands three storeys tall and has one bay. The windows feature aproned sills and flat stone lintels, with a renewed ground-floor window and a first-floor sash that includes glazing bars. There is a similar second-floor window with a sill band. The eaves gutter cornice is present, along with two chimneys located behind.

On the right return, the building has three storeys, two windows, and three narrow bays. The left part features a rusticated first floor and two gabled porches. The ground-floor windows have small panes, while the upper sashes include glazing bars. There are bands at the second floor level and sill level, as well as an eaves gutter cornice. The property is enclosed by cast iron area railings.
