Description
No. 5 in Wilton Village is a schoolmaster's house built around 1854, with a slightly later rear extension. The building is constructed from white "Pease" brick with stone dressings, and has red brick on the right return and rear. It features Welsh slate roofs with stone ridge copings and a bay window roof covered in fishscale-pattern clay tiles. The house is designed in an L-shape and has one and a half storeys with three bays, including a projecting gabled left bay.
There is a central lean-to porch that has a boarded segment-headed door. The ground floor has three-light windows, while the gable features a two-light window, all with chamfered timber mullions, hoodmoulds, and battered sills. A dormer window on the right has a battered sill and stone gable copings. The porch displays a carved and pierced bargeboard with spear pendants, and there are remains of similar detailing on the other gables. The ridge stack has two corniced octagonal concrete shafts that are enriched with strapwork. The left return includes a canted bay with a similar mullioned window beneath a hipped roof, along with another dormer window. At the rear, there is a gabled two-storey wing and a single-storey monopitch extension.
