Description
No. 35 is a detached house dating from the late 18th or early 19th century, with alterations and extensions carried out later in the 19th century and again in the late 20th century. The external walls are of squared limestone with quoins, and the roof is covered with Welsh slate, though sections have been replaced with concrete tiles. It has ashlar gable-end stacks topped with caps and strings. The house is laid out in an L-shape, comprising two main rooms and a central entrance/stair hall on the front range, with a kitchen wing behind the right-hand room. A rear wing was raised to two storeys in the late 19th century, and later 20th-century extensions were added to the angle of the building, along with a now-integrated 20th-century garage. The south front is symmetrical with three bays, featuring windows with cambered stone arches, stone sills, and 20th-century casements with glazing bars. It has a centrally positioned doorway with a late 19th-century glazed door and stone canopy brackets, topped with a later canopy. Two hipped dormers light the attic space. The lower stone rear wing was raised to two storeys in brick with a slate roof in the late 19th century, with further 20th-century extensions integrated into the angle. Inside, the house retains chamfered floor beams with run-out stops, and the original 5-bay tenoned-purlin roof structure. Most of the original interior joinery has been replaced, although some plank doors and a simple balustrade to the attic stairs remain.
