Description
The Smithy is a dwelling and industrial building located on The Street in Uley, dating from the 17th and 19th centuries. It is constructed from squared and coursed limestone rubble with stone slate roofs. The main dwelling features a cross-gabled design with two steeply pitched gables on the north and south sides, and a single plain gable facing the street. There is a stone stack on the east gable and a rendered brick stack on the west.
The main block is two storeys high with an attic and has a two-windowed façade. It features modern casements that are off-centre to the left, along with a partly glazed, 6-panel door beneath a flat stone hood supported by brackets. The north elevation includes pivot-hung modern lights at the gables and various casements below, all under wooden lintels. The 19th-century extension is also two storeys with an attic, showcasing a variety of casements, including two 3-light windows at the outer end and a 4-light window on the east gable, which is half-hipped and has weatherboarded fill.
