Description
This is a large, detached dwelling, dating from the early 18th century. The building is constructed of ashlar limestone, with a coved cornice and a hipped stone slate roof. A stone stack is located at the ridge, on the left side. The house has two storeys, an attic, and a cellar, and features a 2+2+2-window front. The sash windows have glazing bars and are set within plat band surrounds with keystones. A plain string course runs immediately above the ground floor keys. The front door is an 8-panel design, set within a plat band surround with a keystone, and is sheltered by a flat wooden hood supported by brackets. Two hipped dormers are visible, each with a broad 2-light casement window with glazing bars. A 3-light casement window, set under a shallow elliptical arch, is found on the return wall to the left, on the first floor. There’s also access to the cellar on this return wall.
The interior was only partially inspected. A painted panelled room with Doric fluted pilasters and a triglyph frieze above the fireplace was observed on the ground floor, to the left. A staircase is located opposite the main entrance.
This substantial dwelling represents a significant example of a clother's house.
