Description
No 36 is a detached dwelling located on The Street in Uley, dating from the late 18th century. The building is constructed of rubble limestone and features a stone slate roof. It is a small cottage with a rendered stack on the left gable and a lean-to extension on the left side. The main part of the cottage is two storeys high and has one window, which is a sash set in a broad surround beneath stepped voussoirs with a dropped keystone. Below this window is a central four-panel door that is part glazed and has an umbrella hood supported by decorative wrought iron brackets. To the left of the door, there is another sash window, and in the lean-to extension, there is a sash window under stepped voussoirs on the first floor, along with one segmental-headed sash and one small cross-mullion window at ground level. At the back, there is a notable 18th-century sash window with bars, set under a stone lintel with a dropped key in the extension. Originally, this building served as two cottages for cloth workers but has since been converted into a single dwelling, showcasing the architectural quality of some of the village's lesser houses.
