Description
Numbers 3 and 4 are a pair of cottages built in the early to mid 19th century, possibly designed by Ignatius Bonomi. They are constructed from chevron-tooled dressed sandstone and feature a Welsh slate roof with stone ridge copings. The central stack has been partly rebuilt in brick. The cottages are two storeys high, with a three-bay south entrance front for No. 3, while No. 4 is accessed from the north side. The openings are chamfered and have hoodmoulds above them. No. 3 has a central boarded door with an overlight, flanked by a three-light window on the ground floor and a two-light window on the first floor, both with chamfered wood mullions. The roof is shallow-pitched and pyramidal, with a deep overhang at the eaves. The left return and the north side of the cottages are similar, featuring a boarded false door and a Victorian posting box set into the wall at the left end. The first floor of the east side has windows with nine-pane sashes. A short screen wall with a renewed door runs between Nos 3 and 4 and No. 5 at the north-west corner.
