Description
Kilton Mill House is a mill house from the mid to late 18th century that was re-fronted in the early to mid 19th century. It has a right extension of similar date and a mid 19th century outhouse adjoining the left side. The building is constructed of dressed sandstone, which is hammer-dressed at the front, and features clay pantile roofs with stone ridges, gable copings, and block kneelers. The outhouse is made of brick, and the return of the right extension has mid 20th century concrete tiles.
The house is single storey with a basement and attic, consisting of three bays and built into the hillside at the left end. It has a central four-panel door with a mullioned fanlight set in a pointed opening, accessed by an external stair. The windows are mullioned and transomed with glazing bars in pointed openings. There is a mid 20th century casement window in the original opening at the right of the basement, although the left-hand side is obscured by the stair and bank. The single-storey lean-to right extension to the basement features a six-panel door. The house also has a mid 20th century raking roof dormer and corniced end stacks. The right-hand returns of the house and extension have mid 20th century casements, and the single-storey outhouse has a tall stack at the south-west angle. The farm outbuildings to the north have been altered too much to be of special interest.
