Description
The boundary and retaining wall, railings, and gatepiers to the front yard of The Old Zetland School are located on Loftus High Street and date from around 1871. The structure features a retaining wall made of dressed sandstone, which extends to the street and includes end returns. The flat-topped copings support barleysugar railings adorned with fleur-de-lys finials. The intermediate rails are fluted and have inverted palmette ornamental bases along with urn finials. The stop-chamfered gatepiers are topped with chamfered pyramidal caps that have flat tops. This structure is included for its group value.
