Description

This early 19th-century mill sluice is located in the garden of Number 5, Loftus, on the south side of Gaskell Lane. Constructed of coursed sandstone rubble with timber and cast iron elements, the sluice features a short channel approximately 70cm wide. At its southern end, a gate within a timber framework is operated by a ratchet gear, allowing it to be raised and lowered. The sluice is situated roughly 60m south of Loftus Mill.
