Town Hall, formerly Mechanics' Institute. 1873. Ashlar with Welsh slate roof and wood cupola. 2 storeys, 3 bays. Rusticated quoins. Central doorway with prominent cornice on stone brackets. Window above with flat surround and projecting sill on corbels. Flanking 2-light windows in similar surrounds. Centre bay defined by giant pilasters with ornamental capitals. Plain top frieze and moulded cornice. Low parapet rises above centre bay to form elaborate frame to clock and inscription : WARK MECHANICS INSTITUTE. Clock flanked by ball finials and capped by acroterion. Hipped roof. Cupola has pyramidal roof, on moulded corbels, and elliptical-arched sides with scalloped slats. Included mainly for historical interest.
