Description
This is a detached byre located 50 metres north of Sturton Grange Farmhouse, likely built in the early 18th century and extended in the mid-19th century. The 18th-century section is constructed from roughly-squared stone with roughly-shaped dressings, while the 19th-century extension is made of rubble with rock-faced quoins and dressings. The roof is covered with synthetic grey slate from the 20th century.
The south wall features four bays, with the right bay being the 19th-century extension. There is a boarded door in the right end bay and slit vents. The left side has raised gable coping, and the roof is hipped to the right. The left return wall has a central boarded door with a large roughly-tooled lintel and a small vent directly above it. The rear (north) side is similar to the south side.
Inside, the east end of the 18th-century building retains a cross wall, which includes a doorway and vent similar to those found at the west end. An asbestos-roofed shed at the east end is not considered of interest.
