Description

Freeman's Hill Farmhouse is a Grade II listed building located in Alnwick Moor. It was enclosed in 1771 and originally built around that time, with the present structure dating to approximately 1803, incorporating older elements. The farmhouse is two storeys high with three windows and has a single-storey range on each side. It features coursed squared rubble construction and a slate roof with coped verges and two brick chimneys. The windows are late glazed sash style. The central door is sheltered by a later pebbledash-covered gabled porch, which obscures the lintel that bears some inscriptions. The visible figures include 8 and 17, along with parts of names such as Hindmarsh, Bell, and Selby. The roof at the rear has a partly catslide design. The farmhouse is named after a nearby well or pond, where the Freemen of Alnwick are traditionally initiated.
