Description
There are 10 boundary stones located on the boundary with Alnwick Civil Parish, dating from the 18th century or early 19th century. These stones are made of cut sandstone and are rectangular pillars that feature arched, segmental, or gabled tops, standing between 0.70 and 1.05 metres high. Each stone has the letters "A.M" incised on the east side, indicating the Duke of Northumberland's ownership of Alnwick Moor. On the three southern stones, the "A.M" is presented in a sunk rectangular panel. The letter "P," representing Pawson, is found on the west side. One stone, located at NU 137410Q0, is not marked on the current Ordnance Survey map. Alnwick Moor was the site of a series of land disputes between the Duke and the Freemen of Alnwick during the 18th century.
