Description
Jackson's Stile, located 150 metres north of Cockshot Farm, is a house and cottage. The house dates from the early 18th century and was altered in the early 19th century, while the cottage is likely from the early 19th century. The house features a squared stone front with rendered returns and a coursed rubble rear, while the cottage is made of squared rubble with cut dressings. Both buildings have Welsh slate roofs.
The house is two storeys tall with two wide bays. It has a right-of-centre four-panel door with a four-pane overlight, and the ground floor has 12-pane sash windows. The upper floor has four-pane sashes, which were probably once 16-pane but have lost their intermediate glazing bars. All windows are set in openings with 18th-century stone surrounds that were heightened in the early 19th century. The gables have raised reverse-stepped coping on moulded kneelers, and the end stacks feature chamfered caps.
The single-storey, four-bay cottage to the right has 12-pane Yorkshire sashes and a coped right gable, with similar ridge and right end stacks. There is an outshut at the rear of the cottage. An altered single-storey wing at the rear of the house is not of special interest.
